Trumpet Lessons

"Playing the trumpet is such an intangible experience. The player is compelled to start from the beginning and build anew each day... It isn't like building a house, where we resume where we left the previous accomplishments. Each new day we must rebuild the foundation of our musical structure."

~ Armando Ghitalla

Trumpet Instructor Brendan Donnelly

Brendan Donnelly

A trumpeter, writer, arranger, and music educator, Brendan Donnelly has a deep passion for his craft. He began his career when he was ten years old with a beaten-up trumpet that had sat unused in his grandmother’s attic for 50 years. Since completing an undergraduate degree in performance at DePaul University, Brendan has played a wide variety of music in a range of venues all over Chicago. He is also the lead producer, composer, arranger, and performer with Four Star Brass Band, which has recently released "The Four Star EP," and  will release an LP under his direction in the coming months.

As a private instructor and teacher, Brendan shares his knowledge and passion for music with students of all ages. He approaches each student with a holistic approach that focuses on listening, form, harmony, and sound concepts in addition to the basic skills needed to master an instrument, in an effort to teach his students how to be a complete musician. Brendan teaches trumpet to all levels, covering styles that range from jazz and classical to R&B and hip-hop. Whether he is instructing a beginner or advanced student, Brendan gives each individual his full attention, providing the kind of instruction that makes students want to learn.
