Julia Broome-Robinson
Our tuba instructor, Julia Broome-Robinson is currently based in Northern Illinois, and is active in the region as a private lesson teacher for brass students of all ages and ability levels. She has multiple degrees in music, including a doctorate in Trombone Performance from Arizona State University.
Most recently, Julia taught MUHL 220: Introduction to Western Music Traditions at the Northern Illinois University School of Music. Julia has also taught as a full-time sabbatical replacement at the University of Redlands, where she was the acting Trombone Studio Instructor. In this position, Julia taught both undergraduate and graduate trombonists, guided recital and audition preparation, and taught the weekly trombone studio class.
As a graduate assistant at ASU, she was the Assistant Director for the ASU Desert Bones trombone choir, taught the brass methods course for music education majors, and gave weekly lessons to undergraduate students.
Julia co-authored a book on trombone pedagogy with Dr. Andrew Glendening titled "The Art and Science of Trombone Teaching," published in 2017 in English and French by International Music Diffusion and has given presentations at the International Women’s Brass Conference, the American Trombone Workshop, and the International Trombone Festival. Her writing has also been published in the International Trombone Association Journal.
